  ヤマトタケル伝説が色濃くのこる大岩
  [Oiwa (big rock)] The legend of Yamato Takeru is still vividly evident here

  古道の繁みの奥に厳かに鎮座する岩蔵の大岩。ここは、「岩蔵」という地名の由来となった場所です。その昔、ヤマトタケルが東征の折にこの大岩に武具を納め、岩蔵の湯に浸かり傷を癒したという伝説が残っています。

  Deep in the thickets of an old road sits the Oiwa (big rock), which is a solemn enshrinement. This is the place from which the place name “Iwakura” originated. There is a legend that long ago, when Yamato Takeru was on an expedition to the east, he stored his weapons in this rock and soaked in Iwakura’s hot springs to heal his wounds.

  江戸に続いた石灰の道
  The limestone road that continued to Edo

  江戸時代、御用石灰として名高い青梅北部の石灰を馬方や商人が運んだ古道沿いにフセギのワラジは吊るされています。この石灰は青梅街道を辿り江戸へと運ばれました。ツアーではその道沿いのワラジを巡りながら岩蔵の歴史についてお話します。

  During the Edo period, Fusegi’s straw sandals are hung along the old road where horse drivers and merchants transported lime from the northern part of Ome, which was famous as lime for the government. This lime was transported to Edo along the Ome Kaido. On the tour, we will talk about the history of Iwakura as we visit the straw sandals along the road.

  Experience the four seasons at Uendei Hill

  春には満開の桜、夏には爽やかな風が頬をかすめます。陽当たりがよく小川が流れ、土も豊か。さすが、古代の縄文人は良い場所を見つけたものです。目を瞑って、縄文時代に思いを馳せてみてはいかがでしょうか。

  Cherry blossoms in full bloom in spring, and a refreshing breeze brushing against your cheeks in summer. It’s sunny, there’s a stream running through it, and the soil is fertile. As you’d expect, the ancient Jomon people found a great place. Why not close your eyes and imagine what it was like in the Jomon period?
