境内の奥の高台には、都内でも最大級の高さを誇る平和観音像が立っており、そこからは東京の街並みや周囲の山々を臨むことができます。運が良ければ、遥か遠くに富士山の姿も。景色を眺めながら味わう名物の焼きたてのお団子は格別です。
On the hill at the back of the temple grounds stands the Peace Kannon statue, one of the tallest in Tokyo, from which you can see the cityscape of Tokyo and the surrounding mountains. If you’re lucky, you might even see Mt. Fuji in the distance. Enjoying the famous freshly baked dango while admiring the view is something special.
この地域一帯は、室町時代から塩船観音寺への参拝や修行で賑わいを見せていました。現在では当時の面影はほとんど残っていませんが、少し足を伸ばして市街地まで散策してみましょう。途中のカフェでは旅の祈願を終えた後の休憩を。
Since the Muromachi period, this area has been bustling with people visiting Shiofune Kannon-ji Temple and undergoing training. Although there is little left of the area’s former glory, it’s worth taking a stroll a little further into the city center. Take a break after praying for your journey at a cafe along the way.
